HONORING OUR PAST...

INSPIRED BY OUR FUTURE

September 19-21, 2009

At Millennium Hotel
St. Louis, MO

Bishop Thomas L. Hoyt, Jr., Chairman
Dr. Victor Taylor, General Secretary
Mr. Clifford Harris, President Connectional Lay Council

Our Chairman of the Department of Lay Ministry, Bishop Thomas L. Hoyt, Jr., like the prophet presaging him -- challenges us to "write the vision and make it plain".

We expect to fulfill this worthy quest at the 14th Quadrennial Connectional Lay Institute by concretizing for the lay people, clergy, our esteemed leadership and all who join us in this grand convention -- that the lay people are alive, relevant, and energized to be the people of God even today.

We expect by example and precept to build the bonds of earnest commitment that flows from heart to heart -- from breast to breast.

To hear it is one thing but, ah to see it will make imminently clear that vision is transformative and it is by visoin that the people draw inspiration for the future.

Hence, we believe this Lay Institute will acquit itself very well.

The vision..........establishing a Graham/Webb Scholarship for Males --
making it plain..........announcing the first award recipients at the Lay Institute.

The vision..........a broader audience to the vitality of the Lay Institute --
making it plain..........thousands join the several hundred gathered onsite thorugh interactive engagement via their personal computer.

The vision..........efficiency in planning and executing our conventions --
making it plain..........hours are saved by registering and counting votes electronically and posting results virtually instantaneously.

The Lay Institute will be a delegated and deliberative body that presents, debates, and dispatches issues of the day as submitted by lay people across the nation and published in our "lavendar book".
